Self-attitude and motivation for parenthood in women of older reproductive age

Abstract

The article deals with the formation of motivation and self-attitude in women of older reproductive age.
Aim. To identify the level of motivation and type of self-attitude to motherhood in women of older reproductive age.
Materials and methods. The study was carried out in Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, in which 60 respondents, average age 41 years, took part. Psychodiagnostic techniques: self-attitude research by R.S. Panteleyev and V.V. Stolin, methodology "Motivation of parenthood" by Yu.F. Lakhvich, questionnaire "Degree of acceptance of parental position" by E.I. Zakharova.
Results. The majority of women of late reproductive age planning motherhood are characterized by insufficiently positive self-attitude and experience of inner unsettledness. The attitude to the maternal role in women with positive self-attitudes, in comparison with women with negative self-attitudes, is characterized by a more pronounced cognitive component, emotional and motivational components, which are manifested in the form of a higher awareness of parenthood, in a more positive emotional attitude to herself as a future mother, the desire to have a child and to give her love and care, as well as to be realized as a parent, to experience the joy of motherhood. In women with negative self-attitudes, the desire to strengthen the family, harmonize or preserve relations in the family, and protect the interests of family members dominates in the structure of parenting motivation.
