Ambenium parenteral: from regulatory approval to clinical practice

Abstract

Aims. To assess the clinical rationale for the use of Ambenium® Parenteral in acute pain, primarily in patients with low back pain, based on data from clinical trials and real-world clinical practice. 
Methods. A review of publications on the pharmacological properties of phenylbutazone and the study results for Ambenium® Parenteral, containing phenylbutazone and lidocaine, was conducted. Data from a randomized comparative clinical trial in patients with acute low back pain, as well as findings from real-world clinical practice studies in pain syndromes of various origins, were analyzed. 
Results. Ambenium® Parenteral was shown to provide an earlier onset of analgesic effect, contribute to a marked reduction in pain intensity, and reduce the proportion of patients with an insufficient response to therapy. In real-world clinical practice studies, the drug demonstrated efficacy in back pain and osteoarthritic joint pain and a good tolerability with short-term use. Conclusion. Ambenium® Parenteral is a clinically justified option for the treatment of acute pain, combining proven efficacy, rapid onset of analgesic action, and an acceptable safety profile when used according to the approved indications and dosing regimen.
